Another eyewitness account tells the story of suckers being shoved into a Musky’s stomach to increase the weight of the fish and thereby secure for the guide who did it, a tool for more guide clients and an increase in guide rates; securing for himself a "Pay Day Fish". There are other claims to fame being made in today’s ‘Catch & Release’ mentality that defy common sense. There have been claims by Musky notables of the capture of hundreds of 50+" Musky but no one seems to be able to produce a collage of pictures of these hundreds of fish. (When was the last time you caught a 50" Musky and neglected to get a photo before you returned it to the water?) There is a Northern Wisconsin guide that claims to have caught seventeen 50 inch Musky but does not seem to have photos of the fish lying against a bump board that would attest to the truth of his claim...Obviously an empty claim designed to suck in the unsuspecting Musky angler into hiring him as a guide. Unlike the days of old, Musky fishing has morphed into a "big money business" for the guides and businessmen that tap into the Musky mystique. There is a significant dollar incentive for these individuals to inflate their worth to the Musky community at large and secure for themselves increased guide fees, increased lure sales, increased book and periodical sales and increased adventure video sales; not to mention the product endorsements by these Musky notables for products that they have not and do not use. You will note that conspicuously absent from this commentary are the names of the Musky notables that have and are engaging in these underhanded activities.
